THE HERALD 13 Billings, Mont May 19. 1949 Of Interest to Women HAVE MEMBERSHIP TEA Members of the American Legion Auxiliary were hostesses at a tea Monday afternoon in the Legion hall complimenting new members. The party was part of the auxiliary's one-day membership drive. A similar drive was held in all auxiliary units in the state. Arrangements were in charge of Mrs.

Reece Condon, membership chairman. Fine Arts Group Names Mrs. Cochrane Mrs. Archie Cochrane was elected chairman of the fine arts group of A. A.

U. W. at the final meeting following a picnic supper Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Harry 2534 Wbittier Place. Mrs.

Walter Gray was named secretary. They succeed Mrs. Fred Glockhammer, chairman and Mrs. Robert Nielson, secretary. Out-of-town guests present were Mrs.

Lewis Bur dick of Denver and Mrs. S. P. Kurth of Missoula. Mr.

and Mrs. Donald Jorgenson, 518 Lewis avenue, entertained their bridge club at supper and bridge Saturday evening. Bridge honors were won by Mr. A. A.

Schiavon, Mrs. Richard Adam and Mrs. William Weedman. Mr. and Mrs.

Clark Fergus, 631 Avenue plan to return Sunday from a trip to Chicago, Minneapolis and Maddox, N. D. They visited a sister of Mrs. Fergus' in Minneapolis and her mother in Maddox. W.

G. Sloan Addresses Republican Women Spring flowers in yellow, white and green decorated the tea table for the annual spring tea and bridge party of the Yellowstone County Republican Women's club Monday afternoon in the lobby of the Commercial club. Before the tea and bridge, Mr. W. G.

Sloan, executive director of the Missouri River Basin commission, addressed the group. During the bridge party musical selections were given by several students from the music department at the high school. The group included a clarient trio made up of Judy Hardin, Toni Boyle, Arlene Werle, a trombone group made up of David Leuthold, Keith Terrell, Chris Shaffer and Warren Dietz; and a brass sextet, Don McComas, Brent Thomas, Bob McLaughlin, Barry Johnson, Keith Terrell and Jack Streeter. Bridge honors and door prizes were won by Mrs. E.

T. Eaton, Mrs. Dick Logan, Mrs. Karl Anderson, Mrs. Gertrude Mattson, (Mrs.

L. E. Van Winkle and Mrs. T. P.

Clemow. Fresiding at the tea table were Mrs. Eaton and Mrs. Ralph G. Wiggenhorn.

Hostesses were Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. George Snell, Mrs. Logan. Mrs.

H. S. Weedman and Mrs. C. A Mrs.

L. W. Swords vice president of the group presided in- the absence of Mrs. Roy K. Forney, club president.

Arrangements for the affair were in charge of Mrs. R. Tietz. She was assisted by Mrs. Harold Remington, Mrs Rex Hibbs, Mrs.

E. B. McGuire and Mrs. T. T.

Auxiliary Have Ladr Bugs The Military Order of the Lady Bugs was instituted and officers were installed for members of the Billings Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary in the Odd Fellows hall, Saturday afternoon. May 14. Presiding at the ceremonies was Mrs. Gertrude Spady of Great Falls, majestic deputy chief of staff of the Lady Bugs. She was assisted by Mrs.

Curt Beede. past president of the Glagow, group, and Ruth Wigmore, a transferee from Glasgow. Assisting with the initiation ceremonies were members of the Military Order of the Cocties. They included "Honery" Ijady Bugs Hans Hansen, Great I 'alls, past department commander; Curt Beede, Glasgow, department commander; Bill Spady, Great Falls, department senior vice-commander. Local officers installed last Saturday were: Mildred Gardner, president; Frances Hobbs, senior vice-president; Charlotte Dean, junior vice-president; Doris Murray, treasurer; Phyllis Parks, conductress; Evelyn Jackson, secretary; Anne Poehls, guard; Addie Braley, mistress of ceremonies; Afton O'Donnell, musician; Marguerite Garrigus, historian; Frances Rollwitz, flag bearer.

Trustees installed were Elizabeth Prouty, Afton O'Donnell and Hazel West-wood. The local group is laying plans for the state convention of the V. F. W. and auxiliary June 23 to 26.

Garden Club Gives Annual Tulip Tea A variety of tulips and other garden flowers decorated the Commercial club Saturday afternoon for the annual tulip tea and bridge party of the Billings Garden club. Unusual displays were brought by Mrs. L. N. Davy, who had a group of three bouquets, by Mrs.

Robert Jahn who brought two large bowls of violas, by Mrs. P. T. Baker who had an outstanding display of garden flowers and by Mrs. O.

S. Gullickson who showed a youth-on-age plant, a climbing variety. Tea was served by Mrs. L. L.

Lane, and rMs. E. E. Sanda who presided at a table decorated with white tapers and parrot tulips. Bridge followed the tea with honors going to Mrs.

George L. Carlson, Miss Mary Healow and Mrs. Beverly Swan. Door prizes went to Mrs. Harry Johnson and Mrs.

William Jensen. Ninety-eight attended. During the afternoon the club's annual spring llower show, to be held June 14 at the Eastern Montana Normal college, was announced. Mrs. S.

Gullickson was general chairman of the affair assisted by Mrs. B. J. Moses, bridge chairman, Mrs. C.

C. Richardson, Mrs. Floyd Tollefson and Mrs. Edith James; flowers, Mrs. J.

R. Barnett, Mrs. Alfred Bartz, Mrs. Robert Wendorff and Mrs. W.

H. Northey; tea, Mrs. U. Lissa, Mrs. Wendorff, Mrs.

Vanlderstine. War Mothers to State Convention at Bridger At a meeting of the ''Billings chapter of American War Mothers, held at the home of Mrs. C. H. Rieker, 402 South 31st Thursday evening.

May 12, it was announced that the following Billings chapter members would attend the state convention of American War Mothers to be held at Bridger on May 18. Mrs. H. J. Hofacker, state president; Mrs.

Truman Rogers, state secretary; Mrs. Lottie Hartman, Billings chapter president; Mrs. Pearl Rogers, Billings chapter secretary; Mrs. Florence Cahill, Billings chapter chaplain; Mrs. Chris McLuskie and Mrs.

A. E. Heath. In addition to the George Mahr chapter members at Bridger, delegates will also be present from Helena, Montana. $395 Crawford Progressive Club Gives Dinner Complimenting their husbands, members of the Crawford club entertained at a smorgasbord dinner Friday evening in the home of Mr.

M. O. Stark was co-hostess. Tulips, lilies-of-the-valley and other spring 'flowers decorated the table. Following the dinner husbands of members designed hats from paper cups, plates and flowers.

Prizes for games went to Mr. and Mrs. Stark and Mr. and Mrs. Harris.
