Pease 94, of Lodge Grass, passed away Sept. 20, 1992, in the Heritage Acres Retirement Center, following an extended illness. He was born April 18, 1898, on Rotten Grass Creek, a son of George and Sarah Walker Pease. He attended the Baptist Mission School in Lodge Grass, the Carlisle Indian School in Harrisburg, and the Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kan. While at Carlisle, he was lead bugler in the inauguration parade for President Coolidge and the first Flag Day parade in Washington, D.C.

George enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 5, 1919, in Salt Lake City, Utah, served in the Atlantic and Pacific fleets and received his honorable discharge on June 16, 1922, in New York City, as a blacksmith second class. Following his discharge, he returned to the Lodge Grass area, where he entered the carpentry construction business. He married Adeline "Ida" Eastman in Lodge Grass on Oct. 2, 1925, and the couple made their home in Lodge Grass.

Mrs. Pease died in 1984. He was employed as a carpenter for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and later worked for a few years at the Hanford atomic facilities in Pasco, Wash. George served for decades as a maintenance man and performed janitorial duties for Chiver's Memorial Church, which is now the First Crow Indian Baptist Church in Lodge Grass. He was a member of the Baptist Church, the Big Lodge Clan, the American Legion and a life member of the Carpenters Union.

He enjoyed tinkering, working as a handyman and inventor. However, his hobby was raising a huge garden. Survivors include four sons, George Jr. of Hardin, Carl of Billings, Bill of Lodge Grass and Reed of Monroe, one sister, Helen Wolf of Hardin; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.

Vincent Hospital and Health Center due to injuries received in an automobile accident. She was born on Nov. 8, 1971, at Driggs, Idaho, the daughter of Calvin and Margitta Crutsinger. They lived in Miles City until 1980, when they lived in Egypt, Greece and Germany until moving to Shepherd in 1983. Krista attended grade school at Shepherd and also attended Shepherd High School.

She married Monte R. Harman on MRS. HARMAN June 8, 1990, at Billings, and they lived in the Shepherd area. Krista worked as a waitress at Magoo's until the present time. Surviving is her husband, Monte R.

Harman of Shepherd; her parents, Calvin and Margitta Crutsinger of Columbus; a brother, Frank H. Crutsinger of Elk City, two nieces, Heidie and Ammie Crutsinger of Oklahoma; paternal grandmother, Nell Crutsinger of Roundup; and maternal grandmother, Emmie Stogl of Germany. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Shepherd.

Glen E. 'Bud' Wohlbrandt BOULDER CITY, Nev. Glen E. "Bud" Wohlbrandt passed away at the Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, on Sunday, Sept. 13, 1992.

He was born in Upton, to Philip and Irma Wohlbrandt on March 15, 1933. A 28-year resident of Boulder City after transferring with the National Park Service to Lake Mead National Recreation Area in 1964 from Yellowstone National Park, he was always employed as a plumber. Prior to moving to Boulder City, he lived in Lincoln, and Yellowstone National Park, where he grew up enjoying a love for nature and the National Park Service through his father, a NPS civil engineer. He always gave abundantly to his family, job and friends. He also lived in Idaho, Utah and California.

Bud graduated from Gardiner High School in 1953. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in Korea. He married Maudie Epperson in 1953 in Gardiner. She also grew up in Yellowstone National Park and Gardiner, Mont. Survivors include his wife, Maudie; a son, Bryan; a daughter, Bekki Reese; and four grandchildren, all of Boulder City, one brother, Leroy "Wally" Wohlbrandt of Buffalo, three sisters, Phyllis Herne of Montrose, Betty Polson of Fort Benton and Carolyn James of Hot Springs; and his aunt, Gladys Ailes, of Lincoln, Neb.

He was born April 8, 1935, in Lincoln, the son of Frederick and Marian Grace (Megee) Herzog. His growing up years were spent in Lincoln, and Billings.

He served three years in the Marine Corps and was in Korea for a year. He married Eva Darlene Hawkins on Jan. 14, 1956, in MR. HERZOG Billings. Survivors include his wife; three daughters and two sons, Randy Herzog and wife.

On February 20, 1944, she married Herman Besel of Laurel. They lived and farmed northeast of Laurel until 1961. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Laurel from 1944 to 1961. They moved to Billings in 1961, where she became a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband, Herman; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Bill Dutcher; sons Marvin and his wife Jeanette Besel, Ken Besel, Randy and his wife Nancy Besel, all of Billings, and Jim Besel of Olathe, grandchildren Robby, Chris and Danica Besel of Billings, and Nicolas Besel of Olathe, Kan. Paul Gerald "Gerry" Roth, 59, of Shoshoni, died Sept. 17, 1992, at Riverton, as a result of injuries sustained in an accident. Paul was born April 9, 1933, in Park City, to Henry Roth and Clara (Kober). Paul served in the Army. He married Sharon Cozzens on July 2, 1959, in Billings.

He had farmed in the Missouri Valley near Shoshoni for the past 20 years. Paul was a past member of the Missouri Valley Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Sharon; two sons, Kerry Roth of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Paul Roth of Shoshoni, two daughters, Teresa Alleman and Wendy Roth, both of Irvine, brother, Jack Roth of Lovell, a three sisters, Marie Fink, Julia Fink and Peggy Kober, all of Lovell, and three grandchildren, Britni Alleman, Jake Alleman and Mark Gerald Roth. Factions suspend fighting in Kabul KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) Two Muslim factions halted fighting in Kabul under a cease-fire agreement Monday after more than 200 people were wounded in four days of fighting, according to Red Cross figures. The government helped secure the truce between the Hezb-i-Wadahat and the Ittihad-i-Islami factions. Fighters from the government coalition took up position at the edges of embattled neighborhoods and said they had orders to use force to preserve the cease-fire. Since assuming power in April after ousting Communist rulers in a 14-year war, the provisional Islamic government has struggled to keep peace among the many guerrilla groups occupying various sections of the capital.

Ali Mazari, head of the Iranbacked Shiite group Hezb-i-Wadahat, blamed "foreign hands" for provoking the latest round of fighting with Ittihad-1-Islami faction, which is backed mostly by wealthy religious fundamentalists in the Arab world. "I think this war was imposed from outside on Abdul Rasool Sayyaf," the Ittihad leader, Mazari said. "We believe many of his Arabs and some Pakistanis were killed in the latest fighting." Defense Ministry sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, complained that Mazari and his party are acting as Iran's agents in Afghanistan. Ministry sources said three Iranians a diplomat, a doctor and a teacher were wounded in southern Kabul on Sunday when they were were fired on by government forces when they failed to stop at a roadblock. 28, 1929, and died at Western Manor Nursing Home at Billings on Sept. 20, 1992. She attended grade school at Stoney Butte School and one year at Billings Business College. She worked at several places; the longest was 18 years at McCone County Hospital. She was baptized and joined the United Christian Church at Circle in May 1966.

She was a member of the Nelson Creek Homemakers Club for a few years and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Kermit Njaa Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4813 for 43 years. Survivors include a sister, Edna Meissner of Brockway; four nephews, Charles and Frank Nerud and William F. and Jerry Meissner, all of Circle; and two nieces, Betty Menefee of Billings and Mary Jo Lawrence of Annandale, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Irma Nerud; and two brothers-in-law, Clayton Nerud and Bill Meissner.

Because of ill health, she had been a resident at Western Manor the past four years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the United Christian Church in Circle with Steven W. Holmes officiating.

Leaders push unity in Europe UNITED NATIONS (AP) Rattled by Denmark's rejection of the European Unity treaty and France's ultra-slim approval, European foreign ministers pledged Monday to soothe their citizens' fears of a "Big Brother in Brussels." But the European Community nations will push ahead for ratification of the Maastricht treaty "without reopening present text" for renegotiations, the ministers said in a communique.

The treaty, agreed in February, would establish a framework for unified European economic, political and defense policies, and a common bank and currency by 1999. British Foreign Secretary Douglas Hurd told reporters that EC leaders will hold a summit Oct. 16 in London to discuss the turbulence that hit Europe's financial markets last week, and the "preoccupations" of Europeans that affected the Danish and French votes. Hurd said the "preoccupations" cited obliquely in the communique refer to "the worry, the anxiety that has developed to some extent that the European Community is out of'. touch with the citizens that it is meant to serve." Dutch Foreign Minister Hans van den Brock calls it "this fear of Big Brother in Brussels," the Community's headquarters city in Belgi-: um.

The communique also stressed that the governments will remain committed to the European Monetary System. EC leaders previously have said that all 12 community nations must adopt the Maastricht treaty by the end of this year for it to go into effect. Hurd, when asked whether the treaty would die if not passed by all 12 countries this year, referred to Article of the treaty. That section says that if the treaty is not uniformly ratified by Jan. 1, 1993, it will take effect the first day of the month following ratification by the last of the 12 countries.

Diplomats, speaking on condition of anonymity, said other members would press Denmark to reverse its June rejection of the accord. But Danish officials said they would propose a limited Danish membership, probably one in which the Danes would cooperate in economic matters, but not in defense and foreign policy, diplomats said. It was unclear if this would satisfy the goal of Foreign Minister Willy Claes of Belgium said his country "does not like 'Europe a la carte' this is an option we cannot accept." He strongly favored a new referendum in Denmark. Monday's emergency meeting came the day after France approved the European union treaty by only 51.1 percent in a national referendum. "A somewhat, larger majority would have made us happier," van den Broeck said.
